Rain Barrel Fundraiser hosted by Georgian Bay Hunters and Anglers Inc.

Open now and running til May 1st, Georgian Bay Hunters and Anglers Inc. has teamed up with rainbarrel.ca to run a fundraising event in the name of conservation. Up to May 1st, you can help support the club and it's conservation effort by purchasing a rain barrel at rainbarrel.ca/gbhanda If we hit our 50 barrel sale target by May 1st, customers can pick up their barrel(s) at the club which is located at 3175 Ogdens Beach Road, Midland on may 11th between the hours of 9am and 12pm. If the target is not reached, it is possible an alternate date will be selected in which case you will be notified of the change. There will be no barrels on site for day-of purchase.

Community Income Tax Program

A collaboration between community organizations and Canada Revenue Agency, this free program helps individuals and families in need by preparing their income tax and benefit returns.

In order to qualify, a person must have a modest income and a simple tax situation.

This service is offered by Wayne Morgan on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (by appointment only) at Georgian Shores Community Church (across from Sunset Park).

Open House: New Tay Community Policing Committee

Tay Township is seeking members to join a new volunteer Community Policing Committee.

If you're concerned about your community and want to get involved or are looking for more information, please join us on Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber.

The committee will help support and facilitate interaction between the police and community, educate residents and business owners on safety issues and concerns, identify community issues, and create a dialogue with the Southern Georgian Bay OPP respecting public safety issues.

Midland for Mental Health

In support of Canadian Mental Health Association, get a semicolon tattoo on April 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Stained of the Art (285 Midland Avenue, Midland). The cost is a minimum donation of $30.

Midland for Mental Health continues from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre. The event features Guest Speaker Natalie Harrie, live music by The Ariko Band and Jess Bowman, a silent auction, book signing, buffet, and cash bar. Tickets are $45 and available at eventbrite.ca.

Wye Marsh Fundraising Dinner

Mark your calendar for the 4th Annual Tay Township Fundraising Dinner in support of Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre on Friday, May 3 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Oakwood Community Centre.

Supported by Enbridge Gas Distribution, Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution, and Tay Township, the event will feature live music by Dylan Lock. The buffet dinner—prepared by ELM Catering—will include salad, choice of lasagna, chicken, garlic bread and buns, fruit, dessert, and coffee and tea. Vegetarian and gluten-free options available upon request.

Tickets are $20 per person and $5 for children 12 and under.

Gardening for Wildlife Workshop at Wye Marsh

Grow wild and think beyond a pollinator patch or songbird garden. This workshop, hosted by Laura Thomas of Hidden Habitat, will take an ecosystem approach to gardening with a focus on plant selection, design techniques and maintenance must do’s (and don’ts). In the workshop participants will learn about the basic necessities of wildlife, focusing on songbirds and pollinators and more. Plants will also be available for sale.
