Pre-Authorized Payment Plans FAQ

A Pre-authorized Payment Plan allows Tay Township to automatically withdraw authorized funds from your bank account to make payments on your tax or water/sewer account.

Can I join during the year?

Yes! A calculation will be done to ensure your account balance is brought to the point it would have been had you been enrolled in the program since January 1. A catch-up payment may be required. Please contact the Treasury Department (705-534-7248 ext #227) for a calculation on your account.

Can I join if my account is in arrears?

Yes! Option #4 allows you to make set monthly payments according to your budget.

Is it safe?

Yes! Tay Township's bank handles all of the payment transactions. Access to your bank account is limited solely to the withdrawal of authorized funds. Account information with respect to balances and other transactions is not available to Tay Township.

Do I have to sign up each year?

No. Once you have enrolled in the program, and as long as your account remains in good standing, your PAP enrollment will continue.

What if I own more than one property in Tay?

If you own more than one property in Tay, please complete one application per property.

What if I sell my property?

If you are moving within Tay Township, please note that our pre-authorized payment plans are not transferrable. You must cancel your enrollment for your current property and complete an application form for your new property. Please allow a minimum of ten business days for processing.

If you are moving outside of Tay Township, please notify the Treasury Department in writing, and submit a cancellation form terminating your enrollment in the program. Once again, we require a minimum of ten business days' advance notice before your next withdrawal date to process your cancellation.

What if I change bank accounts?

If you plan to change bank accounts, please notify our Treasury Department in writing, as soon as possible, and forward a new cheque marked "VOID". Please note that we require a minimum of ten business days' advance notice before your next withdrawal date to make the necessary adjustments.

What if I miss a payment?

If your pre-authorized payment is returned by your financial institution for any reason, please note that you will be removed from the pre-authorized payment program and a returned item fee will apply in addition to any applicable late payment penalties. A notice will be sent to you advising of the return and, if payment is made within the time frame specified, you will be reinstated.

How does it work?

Forward your completed authorization form to Tay Township. If the amount to be withdrawn from your bank account is recalculated throughout the year, you will be mailed a notification in advance.
