County of Simcoe hosts public information sessions on Victoria Harbour Affordable Housing Development

Midhurst, Ontario: The County of Simcoe is hosting two public information sessions on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oakwood Community Centre to provide local residents and stakeholders with information on the proposed Victoria Harbour Affordable Housing Development project.

In 2014, County Council approved the County’s 10-Year Affordable Housing and Homelessness Prevention Strategy, which contained a preliminary target of 46 affordable housing units for the Township of Tay. County staff will provide an overview of the project, along with details about the next steps in the project timeline. Both sessions will be a drop-in, open-house format and will not include a formal presentation.

“Affordable housing is one of the greatest challenges and strongest opportunities facing the County moving forward,” said Deputy Warden Terry Dowdall. “This project, in partnership with Tay Township, affords us the opportunity to create 40 affordable, barrier-free one-bedroom apartment units in a building designed to reflect the historic nature of Victoria Harbour.”
