Tay Township Appoints Councillor Dave Ritchie as new Deputy Mayor

VICTORIA HARBOUR, TAY TOWNSHIP, ON – Tay Township Mayor Scott Warnock announced today that after hearing public presentations from six individuals that applied to fill Tay Township Council’s Deputy Mayor vacancy that Council has selected Councillor Dave Ritchie to fill the role of Tay Township Deputy Mayor and Simcoe County Councillor.

Mayor Warnock stated that “Tay Township Council is pleased to have Councillor Ritchie’s experience on Tay Township Council and looks forward to him taking on the new responsibilities of Deputy Mayor and representative of Tay Township at County Council as a fellow Simcoe County Councillor.”

As a result of Councillor Ritchie being appointed as Deputy Mayor, the position of Councillor Ward 2 currently held by Ritchie will be declared vacant at a special meeting of Council on November 9th.  At the same meeting Council will review its options for filling the Councillor Ward 2 vacancy.

Councillor Ritchie will be sworn in as Deputy Mayor at a special Council meeting to be held on November 9, 2016 at 9:00am.

The position of Deputy Mayor became vacant at the end of September after long time Council member Bill Rawson resigned for health reasons and Council subsequently declared the position vacant per section 259 and 262 of the Municipal Act, 2001.
