Spring Road Maintenance 2026

This time of year, Tay Township Operations Staff are out across the Township completing annual spring road maintenance to help keep our roads safe and in good condition for everyone.

Street Sweeping

Street sweeping will begin mid-April (weather permitting). This year, street sweeping will begin in Waubaushene, Victoria Harbour, followed by Waverley and will conclude in Port McNicoll. Municipal parking lots will be swept on Tuesdays. Please be aware that the rotation of street sweeping changes annually. To learn more about street sweeping visit tay.ca/StreetSweeping

Potholes

A pothole is a type of failure on a road surface that typically is caused by a combination of traffic, water saturating the soil material under the road surface and the natural freeze/thaw cycles.

Should you notice a pothole that needs immediate attention, please contact the Tay Township Operations Team at 705-534-7248 x230 and provide the following information:

  • Name of street
  • Direction and lane (i.e., northbound, right lane)
  • Address of the closest building to pothole
  • Cross street information, if available
  • Size of pothole

For additional information on Spring Road Maintenance, including potholes please visit tay.ca/roads.

Sod Repairs

During the first snowfalls of winter, it can be difficult for plow operators to see the edges of roads and sidewalks. As a result, some sod damage may occur. This can also happen during thawing periods when winter maintenance is still required.

If your sod has been damaged by snow clearing operations, please contact the Operational Services at 705-534-7248 x230 to have your address added to the Sod Repair List. Repairs are typically completed in late spring.

Tay Shore Trail

Trail maintenance will also begin soon (weather permitting), Operations staff will be:

  • Removing winter barriers
  • Sweeping the trail
  • Clearing debris and completing shoulder work

In May, seasonal park washrooms will begin to reopen, and Township staff will be preparing parks, sports fields, picnic tables, and other amenities in time for the May long weekend.
