Tay Canada Day Committee gives back to the community

Group from Victoria Harbour Food Bank holding ChequeThe Tay Canada Day Committee is giving back to the community, with funds raised through the 2026 Canada Day in Tay event. 

On September 2, members of the Committee joined Mayor Walker in the Council Chambers to present the cheques to organizations that provide important programs, services in Tay and the surrounding community. 

The Victoria Harbour St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank received $12,000 to help cover the cost of its annual Christmas Hamper Program. The program supports Tay Township residents in need, as well as five local Community Living homes. Hampers include holiday food such as turkeys and hams, along with toys, gifts and gift cards for individuals, couples and families.Group holding Cheque from Hospice Huronia 

Hospice Huroia received $2,000 to support programs at the hospice, including supplies for its in-house kitchen and support for patients and their families.

Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation for $1,500. These generous funds will be used to support the next phase of the GBGH Foundation’s We See You: Inside & Out campaign, delivering new opportunities to improve patient care through pharmacy modernization, laboratory redevelopment, equipment investments, and future programs that will bring more health care services closer to home.

A final cheque was presented the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre received $1,000 to support its daily programs, including support groups and Soup for the Soul. 

In addition, the committee donated $500 to each of the following: 

  • Waubaushene Rec Committee  
  • Port McNicoll Rec Committee 
  • Victoria Harbour Rec Committee 
  • Port McNicoll Minor Ball (Thunder) 
  • VH Minor Ball (Hornets) 
  • We are the Villagers 
  • Big Brothers and Sisters of North Simcoe 

Tay Township extends a heartfelt thank you to the Tay Canada Day Committee, its volunteers, sponsors and everyone who supported this year's event. Their time, generosity, and community spirit continue to make a meaningful difference for local organizations and the people they serve.

To date, the Tay Canada Day Committee has raised over $200,000 for community groups and organizations in the area.
