Tay Township continues to invest in local health care
Midland, ON – On August 25, 2025, Tay Township Mayor Ted Walker and Councillor Gerard La Chapelle presented the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation with a gift of $37,500. The investment includes $25,000 for the GBGH Foundation’s Impact Fund, and $12,500 to support physician recruitment efforts for the community. This brings the township’s total support to more than $558,400 over the past 26 years.
"Tay Township is proud to continue supporting GBGH and the essential services it provides to our residents,” said Tay Township Mayor Ted Walker. “Investing in local healthcare and physician recruitment is part of our commitment to building a strong, resilient, and healthy community."
The contribution from Tay Township will help ensure GBGH is equipped with the modern tools and technology needed to deliver excellent, patient-centered care. This year, the GBGH Foundation is focused on funding enhancements to surgical services, new stretchers, updated laboratory equipment, and other critical upgrades that directly impact patient outcomes and experiences.
“We are deeply grateful to Tay Township for standing alongside us in the belief that excellent health care should be accessible to everyone, no matter where they live,” says Nicole Kraftscik, CEO, GBGH Foundation. “Their continued support empowers us to invest in the modern medical equipment our hospital needs to care for thousands of patients each year.”
The $12,500 dedicated to physician recruitment will help GBGH offer an exceptional experience to doctors considering a move to North Simcoe. From community engagement to professional support, every detail matters when attracting top medical talent.
“We’re incredibly thankful to Tay Township for investing in the future of healthcare in our region,” says Usman Chaudry, healthcare talent acquisition specialist, GBGH. “When physicians are deciding where to live and practice, they’re looking for more than just a job. They’re looking for a community that values and supports them. This generous gift helps us create that experience and strengthens our ability to recruit and retain outstanding family and hospital physicians.”
Having first-rate medical equipment and growing our skilled healthcare workforce is critical for a strong community.
