Tay Township Introduces New Logo
Tay Township is proud to introduce its new logo, a refreshed visual identity inspired by Tay’s community, heritage and natural surroundings, reflecting a shared identity and sense of pride across the Township.
The new logo is the result of the Township's Community Logo Design Contest, which invited individuals with a meaningful connection to Tay Township to submit original concepts reflecting the community's identity, pride and future direction. A total of 31 submissions were received through the contest.
Following a review by the Township's Senior Leadership Team, four concepts were shortlisted and presented to Council. Council selected the preferred concept and provided direction for professional refinement.
From a Community Idea to Tay Township’s New Logo
The original winning concept from the Community Logo Design Contest was submitted by Tay Township resident Michelle Couperthwaite.
Michelle described her submission as a modern take on Tay Township's previous logo, maintaining familiar elements such as water and wheat. Her original concept used a blue wave to represent Georgian Bay and the community's connection to the water, while the wheat reflected Tay's agricultural roots.
Following Council's selection, a professional graphic designer worked with the original design and Council's feedback to prepare the final logo.
The final design builds on Michelle's original concept while incorporating additional elements that reflect Tay Township's identity and heritage. The blue wave continues to represent Georgian Bay and Tay's strong connection to the waterfront. The wheat recognizes the Township's agricultural roots, while the addition of the pine tree reflects Tay's forestry and lumber heritage.
Together, these elements create a modern visual identity that brings Tay’s natural surroundings and heritage together in one design.
"This new logo brings together some of the things that make Tay Township such a special place, from our connection to Georgian Bay to our agricultural and forestry roots," said Mayor Ted Walker. "It was important that our community had a role in this process, and I want to thank Ms. Couperthwaite and everyone who took the time to share their ideas and creativity with us."
The Township thanks all participants who contributed to the Community Logo Design Contest and congratulates Ms. Couperthwaite on having her concept selected as the foundation for Tay Township's new logo.
What Residents Can Expect
The new logo will serve as Tay Township's official corporate identity moving forward. The new logo will begin appearing on the Township's digital channels and select physical assets. A gradual rollout will follow, with existing signs, vehicles, and other physical assets updated through regular replacement and renewal cycles.
