Tay Township Launches New Dog Licensing Program with DocuPet

Licensing your dog in Tay Township is now easier and offers added benefits for pet owners. Tay Township has partnered with DocuPet to introduce a new online dog licensing system where residents can purchase, renew and manage their annual dog licences. 

Residents can learn more and purchase or renew a dog licence online at tay.ca/caninecontrol. 

Residents who do not have access to the internet can register in person at the Municipal Office, 450 Park St., Victoria Harbour, during regular business hours. Please note that dog tags will be mailed to residents who register in person. 

Already purchased your 2026 dog licence? 

Dog owners who purchased a 2026 dog licence through the Township's previous licensing system do not need to purchase another licence this year. Those licences remain valid until December 31, 2026. These licence holders will transition to the new DocuPet licensing system when renewing for the 2027 licensing year. 

Residents who purchase a dog licence through DocuPet, on or after July 23, 2026, will receive a licence that is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. Current 2026 licence holders (those who purchased prior to July 23, 2026) are also encouraged to create a DocuPet account to access available features and services.

Benefits of the New Dog Licensing Program? 

Each dog licence issued through DocuPet includes a DocuPet tag and access to the complimentary HomeSafe® 24/7 lost pet service. Each tag features a unique code linked to a secure online pet profile. If a pet goes missing, owners can submit a Lost Pet Report, while anyone who finds the pet can use the tag to submit a Found Pet Report. DocuPet’s dispatch team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help reunite lost pets with their families. 

“Licensing is an important responsibility for dog owners, but it should also provide peace of mind,” said Jocelyn Belcourt Manager of Municipal Law Enforcement Services “By partnering with DocuPet, we’re making the licensing process simple while giving local families additional support if their pet ever goes missing.” 

All dogs in Tay Township must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. Proof of valid rabies vaccination is required to obtain a dog licence.
