The County of Simcoe has awarded the contract to Alexman Contracting Inc. for the replacement of the Old Fort Road (County Road 58) Overhead Bridge over the Trans Canada Trail (abandoned CN Railway Line), located approximately 300 m south of Highway 12.

Construction is now planned to continue until Spring 2024, however, Old Fort Road to reopen in January 2024 when the construction activities will shut down for winter and resume under a favourable weather condition in the spring 2024.

How will I get to My Residence or Business?

During this time the bridge will be temporarily closed to traffic. Alexman Contracting Inc. will schedule work to keep road closure duration to a minimum. Local traffic to homes and properties will be maintained throughout construction period. All other traffic will be detoured around the area via Elliot Side Road (see Detour Route below). Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Hours of Work

Monday – Friday 7:00am – 7:00pm | Friday long weekend 7:00am – 12:00pm

The remainder of the work will be completed during the daytime. A covered walkway has been installed along the Trans-Canada Trail (Tay Trail) in order to protect trail users during critical overhead operations.

Health & Safety

Construction involves the use of heavy equipment and the unavoidable creation of obstacles. We ask that you take extra caution during the construction period to ensure everyone’s safety. Additionally, we ask that you caution children to stay clear of the working area at all times even when workers are not present.
