Update: Power Outage - Warming Centre open for Port McNicoll and surrounding area

UPDATE - April 4, 2024, 6:30 p.m.: Power has been restored to Port McNicoll and the surrounding area. The warming centre is now closed.

UPDATE - April 4, 2024, 5:40 p.m.: NT Power has provided an update that cleanup and restoration are underway. ETR is 2 hours. We will continue to provide updates as they become available. 

A warming station is open at the Port McNicoll Community Centre. Residents in need of transportation to the warming centre are advised to call, 211, a 24/7 information service and helpline to register.

UPDATE - April 4, 2024, 12:30 p.m

Tay Township has opened the Port McNicoll Community Centre located at 560 Seventh Avenue as a warming centre for anyone affected by the power outage. Tables, chairs and somewhere to plug in your cell phone are available.

If you need transportation to this centre, please call 705-534-7248 ext. 220. 

NT Power crews continue to repair and replace damaged equipment and clear trees on overhead lines. Testing is scheduled to be performed in 2-3 hours.  Upon completion, an updated ETR will be provided.  Thank you for your patience and support.

Be advised that Port McNicoll and surrounding areas are currently experiencing a major power outage with 1800 homes and businesses affected.  The estimated time of restoration is 18-24 hours, but that duration may change as we receive more information.  

Tay Township is working to open a warming centre for those affected by this outage.  This warming centre will stay open until power is restored.  More information to come shortly.
