Candidate Package

In order to run for Council in the 2026 Municipal Election, you must pick up a Candidate Package in-person at the Tay Township Municipal Office during regular office hours. The Candidate Package contains all required forms for filing your nomination in the 2026 Municipal Election.

  • Preliminary Estimate of Maximum Campaign Expenses
  • Appointment of Scrutineer by Candidate
  • Declaration of Proper Use of Voters' List
  • Candidate’s Consent to Release Personal Information
  • Declaration of Qualifications
  • Withdrawal of Nomination*

In order to file your nomination, all forms within the Candidate Package must be completed and submitted directly to Election Staff at the Tay Township Municipal Office. Nominations can be filed during regular office hours starting on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. until Nomination Day on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

*this form is not required for nomination submission.

Important Dates

Anyone interested in running for office in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections is encouraged to attend one of these sessions.

Each session, hosted in partnership with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will begin with a presentation from the Ministry and be followed by a Question and Answer period. 

New and seasoned candidates are encouraged to attend this informative session to learn about the responsibilities set out in the legislation for both candidates and third-party advertisers, and a general overview of the roles and responsibilities of Members of Council.

Staff from the Towns of Midland and Penetanguishene and the Townships of Tay and Tiny will be present.

Prospective Candidates must attend the Municipal Office and file their nomination with Election Staff.

Candidate Packages with all required forms can be picked-up during regular office hours starting May 1, 2026.

Candidates who wish to withdraw their name, terminating their candidacy, must do so in-person at the Municipal Office with Election Staff during regular office hours before 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Internet and Telephone Voting will be available prior to Election Day on Monday, October 26, 2026. Polls close at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
